Evocative text and gorgeous illustrations show a boy and his dog first standing in the dark of a snowy winter day and then walking in nature, noticing small signs of spring such as the chirping of birds and the melting brook. This science fiction novel is a great choice for a 4th grade read-aloud. The main characters travel across various galaxies to save the main character’s dad. This book is perfect for any space – loving student ( or if you’re studying space, this is a fun way to incorporate the space theme into your ELA block as well !). I think she’s read or listened to the whole series of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle and her magical cures for common childhood ailments every year since then.
